2011 Season

Wu Qian and Tessa Grobel

Piano Duet

Qian came here in 2007 having just been selected as the most promising newcomer in the music world by the Independent. Born in Shanghai she has lived in UK since the age of 11 and has won too many competitions and played too many major venues worldwide to quote. As a result she is as much an established international star in Asia as in Europe. Her debut CD was released in 2009.

Tessa trained at the Royal Academy as an accompanist since when she has accompanied Nicola Benedetti and Crispian Steele-Perkins. The programme will include pieces by Bach, Schubert, Debussy and Gershwin.

“Her Albeniz was richly coloured, her Rachmaninov majestic, and her Schumann encore had a dreamy lyricism. If I'd listened blind, I'd have said it was a male Western virtuoso."  - The Independent
